MILAN - Marco Materazzi has played less this season, but the Italian defender says that he is not considering a move away from Inter. "I’m happy at Inter, Mourinho is number one and I’m fine with him," said the World Cup winner at a book presentation in Milan last night.
"It might have been proper to say it earlier, but I have said it at the end. I have waited a year to talk. He has all the right qualities. If someone like me, who’s not playing much, says this about a coach, it means he’s a true person.
"With Mourinho there’s a relationship that goes beyond the sporting relationship. We are both straightforward and coherent, we both know our roles, and I’m happy with this."
Materazzi is hungry for more success with Inter. "You are a protagonist when you participate in victories," he said. "I won against Juve and that feeling remains. I have done my duty when called into action. I have been at Inter for eight years and I want to win for the team, not for myself. Two years ago I scored two goals (in the title-winning victory over Siena) and last year I missed one (against Siena)."
If Inter had won the Scudetto last Sunday, Inter would have celebrated on the pitch without the disqualified Zlatan Ibrahimovic. "The rules should be changed for suspended players," said Materazzi. "In Europe a suspended player can go on the pitch but in Italy you’re like a criminal when you get a one-match ban. However, it’s better like this - for the Scudetto we have waited for Ibra…"
Materazzi says he will talk to Massimo Moratti about his future at the club. "I have always spoken to the president; we are two normal people who have a relationship that goes beyond a sporting relationship," he said.
Inter Milan are encouraging Tottenham to revive their interest for defender Marco Materazzi.
