CURNO (BERGAMO) - Esteban Cambiasso was presented with the 30th Le Due Torri (The Two Towers) award by Inter Club Curno in the province of Bergamo last night. The Argentine midfielder joins a long list of illustrious names who have won the award since it was founded in 1970, including Gabriele Oriali who won it in 1979.
Designed by local artist Edoardo Carozzi the award, made in copper, is given to the player who receives the most votes from Inter Club Curno members during the season. Awarded consecutively from 1970 to 1989, the award has been given less frequently in recent years. Cambiasso won it this year for his performance over the past few seasons.
Over one hundred guests attended the award ceremony at La Meneghina restaurant, including Inter Club Curno president Riccardo Ferrari, Inter Club Coordination Centre director Fausto Sala, provincial coordinator Rosella Cremonesi and delegations from several Inter Clubs in the Bergamo area.

MILAN - Esteban Cambiasso analysed Inter’s performance against Palermo in a post-match interview with Inter Channel.
He said: "We’re satisfied with the first half, which we dominated. We went into the break with a 2-0 lead, a good result, but it’s also a very dangerous one because if your opponents score one they can find the spirit for an equaliser and it often happens that you can’t get the third goal, like today. A draw is better than a defeat though."
The Argentine midfielder continued: "We still had chances after their equaliser. I had a ball from Crespo but it was behind me and I left it for Ibra because there was no point turning. And there was a clear penalty on Muntari but I think that the match and, above all, the disputes, end after the referee blows for full time."
Inter travel to Juventus next Saturday in what could be a title decider. "Our approach to the match must be one of a team that wants to win a match so we need maximum concentration," explained Cambiasso. "Today’s result must not affect the way we face Juventus. We must go to Turin to win because the championship is still open, but also for the history of this club, which has to go looking for victory at every ground."
Like the rest of the Nerazzurri, Esteban received lots of applause from the fans today. "We received a great show of affection," he said. "Even when we made mistakes the crowd was behind us and this has double value."
Inter Milan have officially announced that their Argentine midfielder Esteban Cambiasso (28) has renewed his contract until June 30, 2014.
Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso has been giving his reaction to playing in central defence and the Nerazzurri’s win over Reggina…
by Simone Finaldi
MILAN - Esteban Cambiasso started the game alongside Nelson Rivas in the centre of defence, popping up in the Reggina penalty area after just six minutes to convert Dejan Stankovic’s assist for Inter’s opening goal.
"When I start in defence I don’t often manage to get up front," said the Argentine midfielder after Sunday afternoon’s 3-0 win. "There were a lot of free kicks and corners but I didn’t get up much. My goal was all about instinct. I was there and Dejan saw me. These are the goals I like most. It seemed like the move had ended there but Dejan’s assist was brilliant and luckily I managed to get there before the goalkeeper.
"We showed a great attitude today, particularly at the start. Sometimes you find it hard playing in the afternoon at a time you’re not used to after so many evening matches, but we made a strong start and showed how to reach our objectives, so congratulations to the whole team.
"What you do to get in the national team is always what you do for your club. I always give my all, and after that I have to accept the decisions of Maradona and the Inter coach."
APPIANO GENTILE - Top versus bottom. Serie A leaders Inter take on cellar dwellers Reggina tomorrow afternoon in the last league fixture before the upcoming international break.
"They deserve great respect," said José Mourinho of the Reggio Calabria outfit in his press conference after Saturday morning’s open training session. "They are in difficulty and from now until the end of the championship they will be looking for points to stay up. They will come to San Siro tomorrow strongly motivated to do well, but I am extremely confident in my team and the reply we can give."
Inter go into Sunday’s clash knowing they will still be on top of the table with just nine games of the season remaining. "We have an advantage; we don’t have to wait and see what the others do or be afraid of the others’ results," said Mourinho. "We need 23 points to win the title, we know it, and this is the only thing I’m thinking about."
With Cristian Chivu, Ivan Cordoba, Nicolas Burdisso, Marco Materazzi, Luis Figo and Adriano ruled out through injury and Walter Samuel unavailable through suspension, the Inter coach has limited options when it comes to choosing his team to face Nevio Orlandi’s side at the Meazza tomorrow afternoon.
"My only secret is the way I will decide to play," admitted Mourinho. "As for the rest, there are few doubts. Cambiasso will play alongside Rivas in defence with Maicon and Santon, and the contribution we lose in midfield through his absence there is compensated for in defence."
During his press conference Mourinho made a proposal regarding the fines inflicted by the Italian Football League’s Disciplinary Committee. "I’d have no problems paying double the amount if this money could help children in Africa, families in difficulty, or to build a football pitch where there isn’t one," he declared. "It’s not like this now but we can all work together and move in the right direction."

MILAN - Esteban Cambiasso played the second half in defence after the first in his customary midfield position as the Nerazzurri saw off Fiorentina at the Giuseppe Meazza.
"I’m pleased with what the team did tonight," said the Argentine after his 200th appearance in black and blue. "We had to get these three points at all costs. From here on in we can’t make any false steps because we know how important it is for every team to win the championship.
"We knew it would be a hard game against a great Fiorentina side. They aren’t fifth in the table by chance, but we managed to do the job we wanted."
On his own performance against the Viola, Cambiasso said: "I’m a midfielder if the coach plays me in the middle, and a defender when I retreat. I’m pleased with my form, I feel the coach’s confidence in me, I feel good in this group and this is important. I’m happy we kept a clean sheet tonight.
"Juventus did their duty last night and it was important for us to keep the gap unchanged. Today we know that there’s a game less to play and that we are closer to our goal. Who is on top of the table thinks only about their match, so now we’re thinking about Reggina. If there are ‘presents’ from the other teams, fine, but we just have to think about winning."
