MILAN – Esteban Cambiasso played the second half in defence after the first in his customary midfield position as the Nerazzurri saw off Fiorentina at the Giuseppe Meazza.
"I’m pleased with what the team did tonight," said the Argentine after his 200th appearance in black and blue. "We had to get these three points at all costs. From here on in we can’t make any false steps because we know how important it is for every team to win the championship.
"We knew it would be a hard game against a great Fiorentina side. They aren’t fifth in the table by chance, but we managed to do the job we wanted."
On his own performance against the Viola, Cambiasso said: "I’m a midfielder if the coach plays me in the middle, and a defender when I retreat. I’m pleased with my form, I feel the coach’s confidence in me, I feel good in this group and this is important. I’m happy we kept a clean sheet tonight.
"Juventus did their duty last night and it was important for us to keep the gap unchanged. Today we know that there’s a game less to play and that we are closer to our goal. Who is on top of the table thinks only about their match, so now we’re thinking about Reggina. If there are ‘presents’ from the other teams, fine, but we just have to think about winning."
